The number of refugees that arrive in Italy by sea from Libya has drastically fallen over two years. However, every week hundreds of people continue to embark on a perilous journey across the Mediterranean. While in 2017, the European Union decided to transfer responsibility for the rescues to Libya in their territorial waters, despite overwhelming evidence of the inhumane treatment of migrants in the country. Providing humanitarian help is more and more difficult due to the attitude of states, including Italy.
